Idea for Xero · Consideration
Things Accountants Say
A comedy series about tax time, written with accountants, for the small-business owners who dread it.
A hypothetical idea, not a real campaign. Xero isn't involved. It shows how a mechanic from this week's reporting could work for a well-known brand.

01The idea
Tax time is something every small-business owner has a story about. Things Accountants Say turns those stories into short comedy sketches, co-written with real accountants, so the jokes are accurate as well as funny. The humour is about shared experience (the shoebox of receipts, the last-minute panic), never mocking customers, and each sketch ends with a simple tip that shows how Xero makes that moment easier.
02How it works
- 1Collect real tax-time frustrations through a quick survey of customers and accountant partners.
- 2Pair a comedy writer with a few working accountants to turn the best ones into short scripts.
- 3Film a batch of 30 to 60 second sketches with a consistent cast, so people recognise the series.
- 4Release weekly in the lead-up to tax deadlines on LinkedIn and TikTok, with a short tip in each caption.
- 5Invite viewers to share their own stories, and turn the best into the next round of sketches.
Channels: LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Email, Accountant partners
Audience: Small-business owners and sole traders, plus the accountants and bookkeepers who work with them
Targets are set from the brand's own baseline data, so there are no made-up numbers here. Treat it as a starting point for your own plan.
